WISDOM
The Unknown Isn't Empty. It's Full of Possibility.
My best friend once told me that she won't read a book unless she can read the last chapter first.
“You're crazy. Why would you ruin the best part?”
To me, not knowing what happens is part of what makes a story worth reading. Why would you give yourself a massive spoiler before you've even begun?
But she explained that she needs to know whether it's going to have a good ending before she's willing to invest herself in the story.
I think a lot of us are like this in our own lives. We want to know the outcome before we will take a step or invest our time into something. But that is not how life works.
And yes, uncertainty can be frightening. I also like answers. I like having a plan. When I don't know what's going to happen, I can feel that fear in my body—and sometimes it makes moving forward much harder.
Recently, I came across an idea that completely changed the way I look at uncertainty:
The unknown isn't empty. It's a space where infinite possibilities live.
We're used to expecting the worst. But what if we expected the best?
When we meet the unknown with openness, curiosity, and even a little excitement, we give ourselves a chance to see possibilities we might otherwise miss. An opportunity we never knew existed or a path we never considered now has space to appear. We leave room for our lives to unfold in ways that are more beautiful and expansive than anything we could have planned for ourselves.
Now I see the unknown as a convergence point of all possible realities—a moment where the path ahead hasn't been decided and possibilities are still open.
We can choose to receive uncertainty as a gift instead of running from it like it's some dreaded monster. And how much nicer would that experience be?
Because life doesn't let us flip ahead and read the ending first.
And maybe we wouldn't really want it to.
Sometimes the possibilities we never saw coming are the best part of the story.
