When our mutual aid group gathered for the Energy Clearing Fire Ceremony, we were tired. We cared deeply about our work and about one another, but the weight of everything happening in the world had begun to wear on all of us. Someone said that what we really needed was a chance to clear out some of that heaviness and begin again. I mentioned that I had a friend who was a shaman—and from that conversation, this beautiful day was born.
We gathered at one member’s home, bringing food to share and settling in around her outdoor fire pit. While we waited for our individual energy clearings, something unexpected happened: we finally had time to simply be together.
We talked. We ate. We shared pieces of our lives that we had never really had the time or space to share before. We talked about our struggles, the things we had survived, and the experiences that had shaped us. I remember looking around at these women I already knew and realizing how incredibly much each person had overcome. It became one of the most meaningful bonding experiences we had ever shared.
The ceremony itself was beautiful. Each of us received an individual energy clearing accompanied by chanting and the sound of the drum. One of the women had brought red string bracelets for everyone, which were blessed for us during the ceremony. We each prepared a small branch, putting into it the things we were ready to release and the intentions we wanted to carry forward.
Then we gathered around the fire and, one by one, offered our branches to the flames.
And then it began to rain.
There we were—barefoot, outside in nature, gathered around a fire in the rain—and somehow it couldn’t have felt more perfect. There was something wonderfully freeing about that moment: releasing what we had been carrying, surrounded by people who understood, while the rain came down around us.
We ended together with a flower-water cleansing of our hands and feet, filled with real flower petals. It was such a gentle and beautiful way to close the experience.
I went into that day thinking we were gathering for an energy clearing. I came away realizing that we had experienced something much bigger. It was a day of friendship and vulnerability, of recognizing the survivors in one another, of releasing negativity and setting new intentions.
We laughed, ate, talked, listened, cried, released, and stood barefoot together in the rain.
It wasn’t simply a ceremony. It was a reset—and a reminder of how powerful it can be to intentionally make space for ourselves and for one another.
It remains one of those rare days that I know I will carry with me for a very long time.
